TAIWAN ROC

A rather interesting Political Warfare and PSYOPS unit history and tradition is followed by TAIWAN, Republic of China. The POLWAR structure follows a distinctly SOVIET POLITICAL WARFARE CADRE structure-borrowed heavily from that of the former SOVIET UNION.

The nature of Taiwan's geographical position, it's history and future direction and relationship with Red China ensures an interesting insignia collection.

The General Political Warfare Bureau has existed since the establishment of the R.O.C Army Academy in 1924. The Political Bureau of the Ministry of National Defense was reorganized as the Political Department for the Ministry of National Defense in 1950 and named as General Political Department in 1951.

In 2002, it was renamed the General Political Warfare Bureau.

Political Warfare units exist within the Army, Navy + Marines and the Air Force. Taiwan Special Forces utilises POLWAR teams extensively - the POLWAR Dept would be instrumental in determining SF actions and thus features prominently in many ROC SF unit insignia. The ROC POLWAR Dept should be seen as a mirror unit or function similar to the Soviet Political Military Structure and from the following insignia plays an important role in many of TAIWAN's Special Forces units such as the RANGERS, PARA FROGMEN etc.

PW SYMBOLS:

The main PW Symbol is the plum flower - the national flower. This flower blooms in winter - often seen as the harshest of seasons -

which then equates to a sense of patriotism and endurance of national spirit in these cold months with a longing for the onset of summer - all symbolic of the drive towards reunification with motherland China under nationalist governance.  Endurance of hardship, and the eternal longing for a Nationalsit return to the Motherland. The over-riding objective of the PW Bureau is the ideal of consolidating all chinese peoples whilst prevailing over the enemy - the communist idelaogy!
