SOUTH KOREA

South Korea has an interesting geographical and historical relationship with it's totalitarian brother, North Korea.

The Korean Conflict was the first conflict in-which the United Nations fought as an umbrella body, and today the peninsula is characterised by a permanent US Military deployment - an amazingly important psychological component ensuring the status quo.

Both South Korea and North Korea have been involved in cross border propaganda leaflet drops and radio broadcasts. Large style marketing billboards span the demilitarized zone extolling the virtues of South Korean freedom, democracy and prosperity whilst on the other side the slogans extol the virtues of socialism etc. PSYOPS plays an important role in this theatre and South Korea's military.

The assumption that this logo denotes South Korean PSYOPS.    2017 This assumption on my part was wrong! The lettering is NOT Korean , but Japanese and as such has proven to belong top the US

The South Korean Army Troop Information & Education Branch

In 1966, South Korea established the Troop Information & Education Branch to contribute to the enhancement of the fighting spirit and morale of the South Korean soldier.

The unit is a mixture of Public Affairs - informing and 'selling' the success of the South Korean Armed Forces and invincibility to not only the military itself but to the citizens of South Korea and Political Education.  The TI&E Branch serves as POLITICAL overseer within the military - ensuring that no sympathetic ears are tuned into any North Korean propaganda. It would ensure that education curriculum followed the state desired avenue, I would liken it to that of the POLITICAL WARFARE Officer / cadre system within Taiwan, but without any of the obvious Soviet POLWAR connotations.

Representation:  The TI&E Branch collar device is represented by the South Korean Freedom Bell, and the signal flame representing democracy, whilst the caligraphy brush represents publicity and education.
