1949 Badge: Outstanding Political Officer - extremely rare

Expert in military and political training badge for Officers - Gold (from 1950 onwards)

Expert in military and political training badge for NCO's - Silver, from 1963 onwards.

Prior to 1956 Political Commissars were educated at two Academies - firstly the Petofi Academy - created in 1949. It later became the Sztalin Academy.

Both instutues had badges. Extremely rare. Hungarian Political Officers wore a distinguishing insignia on the left arm of their tunic from 1949 - 1952.

See picture. It is a red star badge, made in two versions. One for Political Leaders below Battalion level, and the other for Political Leaders above Battalion level.

After 1952, no special insignia was worn by the Pol Commissars.
